BBQ Jackfruit Pulled Pork
This BBQ Jackfruit Pulled Pork Sandwich is so dang good and easy to throw together! The shreddable texture of Jackfruit is unmatched!

One of the first vegan meats I remember trying was a Pulled Pork sandwich made with Jackfruit. It was by a restaurant in LA called “Pure Luck” which is now defunct. I remember seeing it on the menu and going “the heck is jackfruit?” And the server assured me that I’d love it, and they were right!

Since that restaurant is no more, I thought I’d go ahead and recreate it!
ingredients for BBQ Jackfruit Pulled Pork
This recipe is quite simple with just three main components. The Dry Rub, BBQ Sauce, and the Jackfruit so let’s go over each one!
- Jackfruit – Make sure you get Young Jackfruit in water or brine and not syrup. I will shred it by hand, and maybe chop it up a bit with a knife. Some folks don’t like the briny taste of canned Jackfruit and will boil it for 5 – 8 minutes to get rid of that flavor. I personally like it, so I use it straight out of the can.

- The Dry Rub – You can of course use a store bought dry rub or seasoning blend if you like, but I like making one at home. My BBQ Rub Recipe is great on so many other dishes too, I always have some on hand!

- BBQ Sauce – Just like the Dry Rub, you can find vegan friendly BBQ Sauce at most grocery stores, but I really like making my own. It’s super quick and easy, and you can tailor it to your tastes. Check out my BBQ Sauce Recipe if you wanna make your own!

How to make BBQ Jackfruit Pulled Pork
Drain the Jackfruit and shred with your hands or a knife. If you don’t like the briny flavor of the canned Jackfruit, you may want to boil it in a pot of water for 5 – 8 minutes. I personally like the flavor so I just use it straight from the can.
Toss the shredded jackfruit with a bit of cooking oil (like Vegetable, Canola, Avocado etc) and the BBQ Rub. Then add to a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned and then add in the BBQ Sauce.
Serve on a toasted bun with Pickles, Vegan Mayo, Coleslaw, whatever you like!

And of course you could make some Sliders for a party too!

BBQ Jackfruit Pulled Pork
Ingredients
Jackfruit Pulled Pork
- 4 cups Shredded Jackfruit About 3 (14 oz cans)
- 1-2 Tbsp Neutral Oil (Vegetable, Canola etc)
- 2-3 Tbsp BBQ Rub (more to taste)
- BBQ Sauce (to taste, at least 1/2 cup)
Instructions
Jackfruit Pulled Pork
- Drain and rinse the jackfruit. Then cut it or smoosh it with your fingers so that it resembles a Pulled Pork texture. You can discard the core and seeds, but I always use them. If you don't like the briny taste of the canned jackfruit, you can try boiling them in a pot of water for 5 – 8 minutes to get rid of that flavor.
- Heat up a pan over medium heat and add 1-2 Tbsp of neutral oil. Add in the jackfruit, and cook until it gets slightly golden brown. About 5-6 minutes.
- Add in the dry rub and stir to coat. Taste for seasoning and adjust. Cover in BBQ sauce, starting with about 1/2 cup and adding more to taste. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the BBQ sauce reduces a little and gets sticky. Remove from heat and serve on a toasted bun with pickles, onions and whatever you like!
