Shredded Tofu Chicken
This Shredded Tofu Chicken is crispy but tender, and so dang delicious on it’s own or in just about any dish!

I made a Shredded Tofu Beef recipe a while back, so I thought it behooved me to make a “Chicken” version, and I’m glad I did! This Tofu Shredded Chicken is one of my favorites and it’s so good in just about any dish you can think of!

I’ve been enjoying the leftovers in tacos mostly throughout the week as I can whip them up in less than 5 minutes too!

Ingredients for Shredded Tofu Chicken
- TOFU – I highly recommend Super Firm Tofu as it’s vacuum packed and doesn’t require pressing. I haven’t tested this recipe out with Extra Firm but if you can only find that, then you’ll wanna press it for at least 30 minutes.

- Seasonings – Besides the tofu, we need some pantry staples mostly! Soy Sauce, Herbs and Spices, such as Dried Thyme, Parsley, Garlic and Onion Powder, and some Nutritional Yeast and Vegan Mayo or Oil!
how to make Shredded Tofu Chicken
This couldn’t be easier! First, shred your tofu with a cheese grater.
Make the marinade by combining all the ingredients.
Then, add the tofu to a pan and grill it for a few minutes until it’s golden brown, then pour the marinade over.
Next, stir to incorporate the marinade, and cook for another 4 – 5 minutes. Season to taste and enjoy!
Enjoy as you wish!

Shredded Tofu Chicken
Ingredients
- 16 oz Super Firm Tofu
Marinade
- 2 Tbsp Vegan Mayo
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 tsp White Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Water (more as needed)
- 2 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
- 1 tsp Dried Parsley
- 1 tsp Dried Thyme
Instructions
- I highly recommend using Super Firm Tofu, the kind that’s vacuum packed. Extra Firm will need to be pressed and you might not get it as crispy as you’d like!
- Make the marinade by whisking all the ingredients together.
- Grate the tofu with the large holes of a cheese grater.
- Heat up a non-stick or well seasoned pan over medium heat, add about 1 Tbsp of cooking oil, and then half the tofu. I recommend doing this in two batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Spread the tofu into an even layer and cook without stirring for 3 – 4 minutes or until it’s golden brown. Flip and repeat. Once cooked to your liking, remove from the pan. Repeat with the other half of the tofu.
- Pour over the marinade and stir to combine. Cook for another 3 – 4 minutes or until browned to your liking.
- Enjoy immediately! Or store in the fridge for 3 – 5 days.

Meat-eater-husband approved! I served it on a bun with garlic siracha BBQ sauce, pickles, tomatoes, and extra mayo. Easy to make, although patience is required for the tofu to get crispy. I will make this again!
That sounds so good! Did it take longer than 8 – 10 minutes to crisp up for you? Thanks!
Tasty and easy!!
Nice glad you liked it!
Super easy recipe. I left mine on the heat a little longer as when it started to ‘burn’ it almost caramelised and gave an even better taste! Have recommended this recipe to my friends also!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!!
Iβm halfway through making this right now and I had to immediately jump on to say that marinade is absolutely INSANE, I just tried a taste before it went into the pan and itβs like nothing Iβve ever tasted before
haha I love hearing this, it’s wild right? Sometimes I eat a little with a spoon and want to drink it hah! Thank you!
Delicious!! Thank you for making tofu taste so good!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
For folks who have an aversion to Tofu due to texture, this is the recipe for you. I am enjoying this so much. It is easy to make, prepare and is versatile. Today I made bbq sandwich with it for lunch, and I actually like it better compared to actual π. Thank you for sharing this recipe. It is great knowing I can expand my meatless meals beyond beans.
That is so awesome to hear, I agree, tofu is so versatile you can make it not like tofu haha! Thank you!
