Vegan Buffalo Cheesesteak
All the Tangy and Spicy Flavor of a Buffalo Cheesesteak, but totally Vegan thanks to Soy Curls!

I love anything Buffalo! I’ve got a bunch of different recipes that feature the distinctively tangy and spicy sauce. I also love Cheesesteaks, so it’s only natural that I make a Vegan Buffalo Cheesesteak!
I used to make these long ago before I was vegan, after a night out. If I had some leftover chicken, I’d whip one of these up in no time flat! But it’s also good in the middle of the day when you’re stone cold sober too!

ingredients for a vegan Buffalo cheesesteak
THE CHICKEN – For this sandwich, I’m using my Soy Curl Chicken recipe.

That said, you can use whatever vegan chicken you like! It’s super customizable! You could use my Tofu Grilled Chicken recipe too!

BUFFALO SAUCE – You can make my homemade Buffalo Sauce, or use your favorite Vegan Buffalo Sauce. Frank’s and a few other brands are vegan, just check the back of the label!

VEGAN CHEESE – Use your favorite vegan cheese slices or shreds. I like Follow Your Heart the best these days!
Or make the Cheese Sauce from my Cheesesteak Recipe!

THE ROLL – You could use an Amoroso Roll, or a French Roll. As long as it’s soft on the inside and a little chewy on the outside you should be good!

HOW TO MAKE a Vegan Buffalo cheesesteak
This couldn’t be easier! If you’re using my Soy Curl Chicken recipe, first prepare a batch of those. I like to make these in bulk and freeze them so I can use them whenever I need.

Then add in some Buffalo Sauce, and toss to coat.

If you wanna add some cheese, go ahead, then cover to steam and melt. You can also just mix it all up too so the cheese gets on every piece.

Then you simply need to load up your roll with the Vegan Buffalo Chicken, more Buffalo Sauce, Vegan Ranch or Blue Cheese, and I like to add some Cherry Peppers or Pepperoncinis too!

tips for cooking soy curls
- Rehydrate the soy curls for at least 10 – 15 minutes. I have found that using cold, warm or hot water doesn’t make a noticeable difference.
- Using broth will infuse a light amount of flavor into the soy curls. This is good for something milder in flavor like chicken. However for something like a Soy Curl Beef, I find that reducing them down in broth will render them even more flavorful.
- No matter what you hydrate them in, you’ll want to SQUEEZE out as much of that liquid as possible.
- You can also further dry them out by toasting them in a dry pan to cook out even more of the moisture. This should help remove the aftertaste as well as any mushiness. It should yield a chewy soy curl that’s still juicy.
storage
Store leftovers in the fridge for 3 – 4 days in an airtight container.

Vegan Buffalo Cheesesteak
Ingredients
- 1 batch Soy Curl Chicken *
- 4 Hoagie Rolls
- 4 – 8 slices Vegan Cheese **
- Vegan Ranch Dressing
- 1 cup Vegan Buffalo Sauce
- Cherry Peppers or Pepperoncinis (optional)
Instructions
- Once Soy Curl Chicken is marinated and ready, cook it over medium heat in a (preferably non-stick) skillet over medium heat, for about 3 – 5 minutes and don't touch them. Make sure you don't crowd the pan. You may need to cook them in 2 – 3 batches. This will ensure a nice browning effect. Flip the soy curls, they should have some nice browning on them. Cook for an additional 3 – 5 minutes or until browned to your liking.
- Drizzle over as much Buffalo Sauce as you'd like. I used about 1 cup, but feel free to use more or less to your liking. Stir to combine. Taste for seasoning.
- Depending on how cheesy you like it, add 4 – 8 slices of your favorite vegan cheese. You can also use shreds if you like. You can either let the cheese melt by covering the pan, or you can simply stir it all together and let the cheese melt as you stir it.The idea is to get the soy curls covered so each bite is nice and CHEESY!
- Split your rolls in half, leaving a hinge. You can hollow them out a bit if desired. Then layer 1/4 of the Buffalo Soy Curls in each one. Next drizzle with more Buffalo Sauce, as much Vegan Ranch as you'd like too!I like to toss on some Cherry Peppers or Pepperoncinis too, but it's optional! Use whatever you'd like, Green Onions or Chives, Grilled Onions, whatever you like!Wrap it up in some Deli Sandwich Paper if you like and dig in!
Notes

These are amazing! Made them three times in the past few months and they never miss.
