Vegan Taco Meat

Making Vegan Taco Meat is super easy when you just need to swap one ingredient, the Meat! Perfect on tacos, burritos and quesadillas!

More often than not, when I want to make something like a Taco Bell copycat quick and easy, I will opt for store-bought vegan meat. While I do have a Tofu Taco Meat that’s awesome, this one is just flat out easier and faster thanks to the convenience of pre-made vegan ground beef.

INGREDIENTS FOR Vegan Taco Meat

  • The “Meat” – In the US, Beyond and Impossible Meat are the most commonly found brands. But use whatever your favorite one is! And like I said, if you’d rather work with something else, I have a Tofu Taco Meat recipe, as well as a few Vegan Ground Beef recipes that use TVP, Lentils and Mushrooms, and Tempeh.
  • Taco Seasoning – I have a homemade seasoning I highly recommend you use! Otherwise, use your favorite store-bought or the Taco Bell Seasoning packets, but in my opinion they are not nearly as flavorful as my homemade version!
  • Pickled Jalapeño Brine – I really like adding 1 – 2 Tbsp of this to add some acid and heat.
  • Tomato Sauce – to help deepen the flavors.
  • Water or Broth – I recommend starting with 1/2 cup of water and adding more as needed. You can use broth if it needs more salt, but otherwise I use water.

how to make Vegan TAco Meat

Heat up a large skillet over medium heat with a little cooking oil. Add in the Vegan Ground Beef and break it up into crumbles. Let sit undisturbed for about 3 minutes to brown. Then stir and continue to cook until it’s all nice and browned.

Stir in the seasoning, Tomato Sauce and Pickled Jalapeño Brine. Add water or broth to get it to the consistency that you like. I recommend starting with 1/4 cup and adding more as you like. I ended up using about 1 cup. Taste and adjust for seasoning.

That’s it! Enjoy in any Tacos or Burritos, Nachos, you get the idea!
