Vegan Breakfast Sauce

The most TANGY & ZIPPY Sauce you can put on any Breakfast Sandwich or Burrito! A delicious way to start your day!

I’m not sure when McDonald’s introduced their Breakfast Sauce, but it was long after I used to frequently go (and apparently it’s discontinued now!) I’ve heard of this, and a few folks have requested I make some, so when I was putting together my Freezer McMuffins video, I thought why not do some research and try it out?

When I looked up other recipes, they all seemed to have the same ingredients, but they all varied wildly in the proportion of those ingredients. I also checked out the ingredient list on McDonald’s site and noticed that it has dehydrated cheese in there, so I added in some nutritional yeast to give it a cheesy flavor.

And yeah, I gotta say, this sauce is unbelievably good! I’ll admit adding dill and steak sauce to mustard and mayo seemed a bit weird to me at first, but it turned out to totally elevate the sauce and make it super addictive!


  • Vegan Mayo – This is the base of the sauce! I really like Follow Your Heart Vegenaise!
  • Yellow Mustard – You can use Dijon or whatever mustard you like, but simple yellow is perfect!
  • Vinegar – Lemon juice will work fine too.
  • Steak Sauce – It might strike as weird, but nearly every steak sauce is vegan. You might wanna watch out for anchovies, but in general, it’s plant-based. Even A-1 is!
  • Dill – I’m sure fresh would work, but I used dried.
  • Nutritional Yeast – for some additional cheesy umami flavor!


Refrigerate and use in 3-5 days, you can half the recipe too if you don’t think you’ll eat this much, but it’s really good!!

Serving Suggestions

This is pretty versatile and can be used on just about any breakfast sandwich or burrito! You can try it on a Vegan McGriddle or McMuffins, in fact I developed this recipe for my Freezer Sausage McMuffins! Or how about in a Breakfast Burrito?

Course Sauces


  • 1/2 cup vegan mayo
  • 1 – 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp steak sauce
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp nutritional yeast
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  • Simply combine everything in a bowl, season to taste and refrigerate! Use within 5 days.
