Pizza Beans

When you want Pizza but you also want Beans you gotta make these Pizza Beans! All the flavor of Pizza with the added comfort of Beans!

I’ve been seeing this Pizza Beans on my Instagram for a while now and I finally made some, and I’m glad I did! It really is the perfect marriage of pizza and beans! And best of all, it’s super quick and easy to make, and since it’s got beans it’s nutritious too!

INGREDIENTS FOR Spicy Beans & Greens

  • The Beans – I used Cannellini Beans for this, but you can use Butter Beans, Haricot, or Chickpeas as well.
  • Red Sauce – I made my new Red Sauce recipe for the tomato base. But you can totally use your favorite store-bought Marinara sauce to make it quicker and easier too!
  • Vegan Cheese & Toppings – I used some Daiya Mozzarella on this recipe, as well as the Tofurky Pepperoni. But obviously, top it with whatever you like!

how to make Pizza Beans

Grab a 12″ cast iron skillet or stovetop and oven safe pan, and prepare the Red Sauce or use some store-bought Marinara.

Drain the beans and add them to the sauce. Season to taste!

Top with Vegan Cheese and any Toppings you like.

Bake in the oven for 8 – 10 minutes or until cheese has melted.

Let cool for 10 – 15 minutes, then dig in with some crusty bread!

Ingredients

  • 2 (15 oz) Cans Cannellini Beans (or Butter Beans, Haricot, Chickpeas)
  • 1 cup Shredded Vegan Mozzarella
  • Toppings of Your Choice! (Pepperoni, Sausage, Peppers, etc)

Red Sauce (See Notes)

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 4 Garlic Cloves (minced)
  • 24 – 28 oz. Passata or Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 – 2 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 – 2 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar (if needed)
  • 1 – 2 tsp Calabrian Chiles (optional for heat)
  • 1 tsp Mushroom Seasoning (optional for umami)
  • 2 Tbsp Fresh Chopped Basil or Parsley
  • Salt & Pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450 F / 230 C

Red Sauce

  • Add the olive oil and tomato paste to a cold pan and heat up over medium heat. I recommend a cold pan as adding tomato paste to a hot pan can cause it to splatter quite a bit.
  • Once tomato paste starts to sizzle stir it and cook it for about 2 minutes, then add in the minced garlic and stir to incorporate. Cook for 1 minute then add in the Passata or Crushed Tomatoes and stir together.
  • Next add in all the seasonings. I recommend starting with the smaller measurements and adding more as you like. Calabrian Chiles are good if you want a spicier sauce, otherwise, leave them out.
  • Taste and adjust for seasoning. If the tomatoes are too acidic, you can add some sugar, I will typically add 1 Tbsp and that will cut the acidity nicely.

Pizza Beans

  • Drain the beans and add them to the sauce, stir to combine. Add in any fresh herbs and taste for final seasoning.
  • Top with Vegan Cheese and any Toppings you like.
  • Bake in the oven for 8 – 10 minutes or until cheese has melted.
  • Let cool for 10 – 15 minutes, then dig in with some crusty bread!

Notes

Red Sauce – You can also simply use a 28 oz. jar of your favorite store-bought Marinara Sauce instead too!
